Letters of Recommendation

2 Corinthians 3:2-3

As girls have been perusing stores Rushing to sales for the perfect dresses and shoes, “Rush” is fixing to commence at Auburn University! For me, this is the very first time I will experience Ice Water Tea’s coming from my refrigerator watching Netflix instead of being apart of the entire Panhellenic process. (It’s slightly weird!)

I had an incredible two years in the Panhellenic system at Auburn! God had a different plan for my life this coming semester since I’m heading to Belmont University (GO BRUINS! - that’s another story for another time!), BUT I’m an AOII (for life!!), and whether you’re going through rush for the first time ever, or you’re already in a sorority, everyone KNOWS exactly what a letter of recommendation is…

Basically it’s a letter of praise about you!

To explain the verse at the top of the page, I’m gonna go backwards. Christ HIMSELF wrote you into existence, and because of His love for us and the fact that he died on the cross for us, our lives ought to reflect that love. “Not chiseled into stone, but carved into human lives” is talking about the Holy Spirit coming into the picture after years of only having the 10 commandments and priests! Having a personal relationship with God that doesn’t necessarily require any intercessory prayer is a humongous gift. By having the Holy Spirit, we are able to communicate with God on a personal level. And this phrase - “Your very lives are a letter that anyone can read by just looking at you” - is what I’m really getting at. Since we’re able to be in constant communication with God and have the power of the Holy Spirit, Rush, college, work, etc can become an INCREDIBLE platform for the gospel!! Our lives should reflect the life and love of our Savior. So going even further backwards….

“Neither do we need letters of endorsement (aka letters of recommendation), either to you or from you. You yourselves are all the endorsement we need.”

WE DON’T NEED LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION in life!!! Because, WE GOT THE HOLY SPIRIT LADIES. No written letter can do your life justice as other girls watch you spread the love of Christ.

“But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate (aka Holy Spirit) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” 

John 16:7

A sorority does not define you. A tee shirt does not define you. A button does not define you. May God be the only one who defines you. May God shine through every word, deed, action. If you have a supernatural outlook on life, and you’re only looking to impact people by loving them, Rush ought to be a total breeze ;) Rush can be a blast, but it helps to have the right outlook! So go get ’em
